The Beginning
Durwood French began in the drycleaning business during his high school years in Corsicana, TX. There he learned the art of spotting and drycleaning. After moving to Dallas and trying his hand in other fields, D.D. went to work for Oriental Cleaners. While there, he met Nina, my mom, and it was love at first sight. They went on to manage cleaners for Oriental until 1959 when the opportunity came to buy their own place. D D French Cleaning, Inc. was born! D.D. and Nina presided over the business until D.D.'s death in 1982. At that time, daughter Shirley stepped in and has been operating the business ever since.
Shirley French Reichstadt likes to tell people she was" born in a laundry basket"! She grew up working at the cleaners-starting with putting paper covers on the hangers to helping customers to their cars with clothes and graduating to counter service, production and office work.
